We are working to bring Nepali youths from Russia: Saud

KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs, NP Saud, has said that the state has a responsibility towards Nepali citizens who joined the Russian army, even if they went through illegal routes.

Talking to the families of Nepali youths serving in the Russian Army on Tuesday, he said it is the responsibility of the state to look after the well-being of Nepalis regardless of where they are. “They shouldn’t have used illegal routes to reach Russia. But since they are already in Russia, it is now the responsibility of the state,” he added. “The state will spare no effort to bring them home. I am making honest efforts in this direction.”

On the occasion, Saud said the Embassy of Nepal in Moscow is making all possible efforts to bring Nepali youths back from Russia, provide treatment for injured youths, and repatriate dead bodies to Nepal. “The government is in contact with the Russian government through the Russian Embassy in Kathmandu and the Embassy of Nepal in Moscow,” he added.

Saud also said 244 families have applied at the Department of Consular Services for the rescue of their family members from Russia. He also said positive discussions have been held with the Russian ambassadors for Nepal’s demand for treatment for injured Nepalis and compensation for the next of kin of the deceased youth.
