KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has pledged to undertake high-level diplomatic efforts to bring back Nepalis currently serving in the Russian Army.

During a meeting with members of the Campaign for the Protection of the Lives of Nepalis Serving in the Russian Army on Tuesday, Dahal reassured that the Office of the Prime Minister is committed to addressing the concerns raised by the families of these individuals. “The government is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts towards this objective,” he added.

Dahal also said he would make additional personal efforts to facilitate the return of Nepalis from Russia.

Stating that he has held conversation with Nepalis deployed on the battlefield, Dahal briefed the families of Russia about the ongoing diplomatic discussions aimed at addressing their situation.

Earlier, families of Nepalis recruited by the Russian Army had staged a demonstration in Kathmandu, urging the government to repatriate their loved ones from the battlefield. They withdrew their protest a few days ago after the Prime Minister’s public relations expert Buddhi GC expressed a commitment to address their demands.

Subsequently, Prime Minister Dahal invited them for a discussion and briefed them on the government’s initiatives taken thus far.
