KATHMANDU: Six police personnel were injured during a clash between police and local youths clashed on Garuda Municipality Office premises in Rautahat district on Wednesday.

The clash broke out after supporters of Deepak Yadav, who had contested the mayoral election in the municipality in March last year, attempted to padlock the municipality.

According to the Chief District Officer of Rautahat, the police fired in the air four times to bring the situation under control. “The incident occurred when the police intervened after a group of local youths attempted to padlock the municipality office. The police had to fire in the air and use tear gas shells after the protesters began pelting stones,” Jha said. “A few protesters were also injured.”
