KATHMANDU: The Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund Governing Committee has decided to release Rs 1 billion from the fund to the Disaster Management Fund.
A meeting of the committee held on Tuesday decided to release the amount from the account maintained at Everest Bank Ltd to the Disaster Management Fund as per Rule 4 of the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund Operation Rules, 2016.
Rule 4 states that the fund can be used to provide relief and safeguard the property of flood-hit people, create temporary camps for flood-hit people, arrange food, clothing, and livelihoods for flood-hit people, provide treatment to flood-hit people, provide compensation for people who die in natural disasters, dispose of garbage created by disasters, build temporary shelters or rehabilitate disaster-hit people, provide financial assistance for the repair of houses of flood-hit people, and run awareness and preparedness campaigns.
The National Planning Commission Vice Chairperson is the coordinator of the eight-member Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund Governing Committee.
The committee includes secretaries of the Ministry of Home Affairs; the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration; the Ministry of Health and Food Safety; the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Environment; the Ministry of Infrastructure Development; and the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation.
The Secretary (Coordination) of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers serves as the member-secretary of the governing committee.
