RJM formally proposes the name of Durga Poudel for National Assembly

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM) has proposed to nominate its leader Durga Poudel to the National Assembly.

Poudel was defeated by CPN-UML’s Surya Thapa in the election for the House of Representatives held in November last year.

“We have proposed the name of our Vice Chairperson and Spokesperson, Durga Poudel, for nomination to the position of women member in the upper house that is falling vacant on March 4,” Rastriya Janamorcha Chairman Chitra Bahadur KC said in a statement on Sunday. “Since the nomination is to be made by the President, we request the government and the President for the nomination.”

The term of CPN-UML leader Bimala Rai Poudel, who was appointed to the National Assembly by former President Bidya Devi Bhandari, is expiring on March 4.

Likewise, the term of 19 other members of the National Assembly is ending on March 4. The Election Commission is holding a vote to elect the remaining 19 members on January 25.

The ruling coalition has shared 19 posts amongst themselves and is contesting the election by forming an alliance.
