Province 1: Hikmat Bahadur Karki appointed Chief Minister

ITAHARI: CPN-UML’s parliamentary party leader Hikmat Bahadur Karki has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Province 1.

Province Chief Parshuram Khapung appointed Karki as per Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015.

Karki submitted his claim for government formation earlier on the day securing the support of 60 assembly members. He has the support of CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), and Janata Samajbadi Party. While Maoist Cente has 13 lawmakers, RPP and JSP have 6 and one lawmaker, respectively.

UML is the largest party in the Province 1 Assembly with 40 seats.

Karki has become the fourth Chief Minister of the Province 1 Government. He is a standing committee member of CPN-UML and joint in-charge of CPN-UML’s Province 1 Committee. He was elected to the Province 1 Assembly from Jhapa-5 (A) seat.
