Pokhara student’s ‘gang fight’ birthday prank for teacher goes viral

POKHARA: A ‘gang fight’ prank performed by Grade 12 students at Gandaki Boarding School to celebrate their teacher’s birthday has gone viral on the Internet.

In the video posted on the Instagram page of the class four days ago, the teacher, Sujan Lamsal, can be seen rushing into the classroom to break up a fight between students. After separating them, a student appears with a bouquet in hand, singing the ‘Happy Birthday’ song. The surprised teacher then proceeds to hug all the students. All the class then join for the birthday celebration.

The video, which was posted four days ago, has garnered over 3.3 million likes and nearly 20,000 comments.

Lamsal, a 38-year-old resident of Ghachowk in Kaski, has been teaching Physics at Gandaki Boarding School for the past 13 years. He is also the class teacher for Section ‘D’ of Grade 12.

The Class 12 students, who will graduate in a couple of months, said they decided to celebrate Sujan sir’s birthday in a creative way to make the event memorable. “We knew his birthday was on Saturday. Since the school closes on Saturday, we planned the surprise celebration for Friday,” said Saman Gurung, one of the students who organized the prank.

Lamsal expressed his gratitude for the students’ love. “I will never forget that moment. I have always loved my students, and they also have profound respect for me,” he told Himal Press.

Gandaki Boarding School, established 58 years ago, currently has over 1,200 students studying in Grades 4 to 12.
