Emergency slides of the aircraft were deployed for safe evacuation of passengers.
KATHMANDU: Passengers and crew on board a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to Kathmandu had to be rescued using emergency procedures after one of the aircraft’s tires exploded shortly after it touched down on the runway at Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday morning.
The tire subsequently caught fire. However, firefighters swiftly brought the blaze under control. All passengers on board the Airbus A330-343 aircraft were then evacuated using emergency slides, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.
All 277 passengers and crew members were rescued safely.
Flight operations at TIA were disrupted for nearly two hours because of the incident. An Air India flight to New Delhi, which was scheduled to depart at 6:45 am, was only able to take off at 8:40 am after the emergency procedures were completed.
