
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the government is committed to the early enactment of the School Education Bill.
“The government is committed to enacting this crucial Bill by holding needful discussions,” he said, in his message on the launch of the Student Enrollment Campaign on Monday. Oli also requested everyone to make the student enrollment campaign for the upcoming academic session successful.
Oli stressed the need to make education inclusive and high-quality, from basic technical to higher education, to achieve the global sustainable development goals by 2030. Highlighting the importance of transforming educational institutions into centers of excellence and making education a means to fulfill the national aspiration of a ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali, he called on all education stakeholders to focus on producing quality, employment-oriented human resources.
“We cannot achieve national goals without reducing poverty. The first condition to eradicate poverty is education,” he said. “We cannot achieve this by keeping our children out of school.”
Although improvements have been seen in the net enrollment rate at the basic level, Oli said that more effort is needed to increase student retention rates. “To achieve the goals of compulsory and free basic education and free secondary education, there is a need to enhance investment partnerships based on mutual coordination, cooperation and coexistence among all three levels of government,” he added.
