KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist-Center) has reiterated that there have been no irregularities in the funds released by the government for the Maoist combatants.
Speaking at a press meet organized at the party headquarters in Koteshwar on Sunday, Maoist Center Vice Chairman and Spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara said that the government looked after the management and coordination of the Maoist combatants for six years and concluded that there were no irregularities in the management of Maoist cantonments.
“The government had released Rs 460 million as an advance for the management of Maoist combatants and cantonments. Based on the government’s decision to convert the amount into a grant on the recommendation of the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction. The Office of the Auditor General has thoroughly audited the expenses and notified the Office of the Central Coordinator for Cantonment Management approving them,” Mahara claimed.
Mahara also claimed that allowances and other management expenses for the Maoist combatants were disbursed through the cantonment management office.
Stating that some people were linking expenses made in Maoist cantonments to the Bhutanese refugee scam in a premeditated manner, Mahara said the government’s action against people involved in the scam will make the nation proud. “It has boosted the morale of the common people,” he added.
Regarding the concerns raised about the planned militant camps due to the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, Mahara stated that the Maoist center has taken action against the national criminals involved in the process of fake Bhutanese refugees to uphold the nation’s dignity. This has boosted overall enthusiasm and morale.
Mahara also said the Maoist Center has suggested the government to ensure that the guilty are held accountable. He added that the investigation into the case will convey a positive message to the Nepali people.
Also speaking at the press meet, Maoist Center Secretary Chakrapani Khanal said that the decision to provide funds to disqualified Maoist combatants was made by the government a long time ago. He urged lawmakers to make comments about the cantonment camps only after thoroughly studying the matter.
