Nepse up 7.73 points; turnover drops to Rs 4.74 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its gains for a second consecutive session on Monday, rising by 7.73 points to close at 2,796.43.

Although the index posted early gains and breached the psychological 2,800-point level to hit an intraday high of 2,806.56 points, it soon fell into the red. Despite some recovery attempts, Nepse fell to an intraday low of 2,789.56 points, before late buying pared some losses.

Unit prices of 157 scrips advanced during the session, while 102 declined and 10 remained unchanged. Total turnover dropped to Rs 4.74 billion, with 10.92 million units traded through 81,006 transactions.

Four scrips, including the newly listed Palpa Cement Industries Ltd and Shikhar Power Development Ltd, hit the 15% positive circuit on Monday. Reliance Spinning Mill Ltd topped the turnover chart with Rs 307.45 million worth of shares traded. Ankhu Khola Jalavidyut Company Ltd and Solu Hydropower Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 261.82 million and Rs 239.78 million, respectively.

Toward sectoral indices, five posted losses while the remaining eight ended the session in the red. The Trading sub-index posted the biggest loss of 1.39%, while Manufacturing & Processing recorded the highest gain of 1.52%.
