KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped its four-day losing streak on Friday, posting a marginal gain of 1.54 points to close the last trading day of the week at 2,788.70 points.

The market remained volatile throughout the session, swinging between gains and losses. Although the benchmark index recovered after hitting an intraday low of 2760.48 points following a steep decline during early trading, it recovered but remained in the red throughout the session before ending slightly higher. Despite the uptick in the benchmark index, a total of 167 scrips closed lower, while 88 advanced and 14 remained unchanged.

Unit prices of three companies—Palpa Cement Industries Ltd, Shikhar Power Development Company Ltd, and Mai Khola Hydropower Ltd—hit the 15% positive circuit during the session. Ridi Power Company Ltd posted the highest transactions of Rs 273.84 million. Next were Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd and National Hydropower Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 249.29 million and Rs 244.47 million, respectively.

Total turnover slightly improved to Rs 5.27 billion compared to the previous session, with 12.17 million units traded through 75,229 transactions.

Among trading groups, seven ended in the red, while the remaining six posted gains. The Others sub-index posted the biggest loss of 1.02%, while the Manufacturing & Processing sub-index posted the biggest gain of 0.66%
