Nepse sheds 30.6 points, closes below 2,600-point level

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing streak to a fourth consecutive session on Monday, dropping 30.60 points to close trading at 2,570.18 points.

This marks the first time that the benchmark index has fallen below the psychological support level of 2,600 points since December 24 last year.

Although the index moved into the green initially, it soon moved into the negative territory as selling pressure intensified and remained in the red throughout the session. Unit prices of 249 stocks declined during the session, while only 22 gained and four remained unchanged. Despite Nepse’s decline, total turnover improved to Rs 7.46 billion with 41.72 units traded through 51,295 transactions.

Among individual stocks, Samudayik Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd posted the biggest gain of 5.37% on Monday. Next were 10.25% Citizens Bank Debenture 2086 and Aatmanirbhar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd with gains of 5.31% and 5%, respectively. On the other hand, Upakat Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd logged the largest loss of 11.28%.

Debentures topped the turnover chart on Monday. NMB Debenture 9.55% logged the highest turnover of Rs 484.65 million. Next were 10% NIC Asia Debenture 2085/86 and Everest Bank Ltd Debenture 2091 with turnovers of Rs 466.58 million and Rs 371.01 million, respectively.

All 13 trading sub-indices ended the session in the red. The Trading sub-index posted the biggest loss of 2.3%. Next were the Hotels & Tourism and Hydropower sub-indices with losses of 1.99% and 1.98%, respectively.
