KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index returned to winning ways on Tuesday, with the benchmark index rising by 22.21 points, or 0.80%, to close trading at 2,777.58.

The market recovered from the previous session’s decline as the investor sentiment remained broadly positive throughout the day. Although the index had dipped after some initial gains, it climbed steadily during afternoon trading and closed near the day’s high.

The index had gone down by 26.72 points on Monday.

Unit prices of 184 stocks advanced during the session, while 77 declined and 10 remained unchanged. Despite the index’s gain, total turnover fell slightly to Rs 5.26 billion, with 11.38 million traded through 61,527 transactions.

Among individual stocks, Kalinchowk Hydropower Ltd recorded the highest gain of 14.98%, while Nabil Debenture 2085 posted the biggest loss of 4.59%. Likewise, Ankhukhola Jalvidyut Company Ltd topped the turnover chart with transactions worth Rs 467.66 million. Next were Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd and Ridi Power Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 267.87 million and Rs 260.51 million, respectively.

All trading groups, except for Manufacturing & Processing, which dipped y 0.42%, ended the session in the green. The biggest gain came from the Finance sub-index which was up by 6.03%. Next were the Others and the Trading sub-indices, which were 3.84% and 1.13%, respectively.
