Nepse falls for third straight day; turnover inches higher

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index closed 10.07 points lower at 2,730.17 on Tuesday. With this, the benchmark index has extended its losing run into the third straight session.

The index moved into negative territory as soon as the trading began and ended the session in the red despite a minor recovery toward the closing hour.

Unit prices of 174 stocks declined during the session, while 80 advanced and 14 remained unchanged. Total turnover, however, improved to Rs 3.29 billion, with 7.95 million units traded across 46,402 transactions.

Among individual stocks, Union Hydropower Ltd logged the biggest gain of 11.25%. On the other hand, Asian Hydropower Ltd registered the biggest loss of 9.89%. Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd topped the turnover chart with Rs 376.82 million worth of shares traded. Next were Sahas Urja Ltd and SY Panel (Nepal) Ltd with turnovers of Rs 187.71 million and Rs 185.49 million, respectively.

Three trading groups ended the session in the green, while the remaining 10 posted losses. The Trading sub-index posted the biggest loss of 0.32%, while the Others sub-index suffered the biggest loss of 2%.
