Nepse fails to break 2,800-point threshold, gains 2.66 points

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index closed in positive territory for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, gaining a modest 2.66 points, or 0.09%, to settle at 2,780.25 points.

Nepse had gained 22.21 points on Tuesday.

The market opened on a volatile note, climbing significantly in the first half of the trading session to flirt with the psychological support level of 2,800 points before facing selling pressure in the afternoon. Although the index saw corrections after an hour’s mark, the benchmark index managed to hold onto minor gains by the closing bell.

Unit prices of 149 scrips advanced during the session, while 116 declined and six remained unchanged. Total turnover slightly improved to Rs 4.73 million with 13.52 million units traded through 62,148 transactions.

Among individual stocks, Kalinchowk Hydropower Ltd posted the highest gain of 14.99%. On the other hand, Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd recorded the largest loss of 5.18%. Ankhukhola Jalavidyut Company Ltd topped the turnover chart with total transactions worth Rs 442.3 million. Next were Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd and Ridi Power Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 218.59 million and Rs 204.94 million, respectively.

The sub-indices of seven out of 13 trading groups ended the session in the green, while the remaining six posted losses. The biggest gain came from the Non-life Insurance sub-index, which closed 3.37% higher. On the other hand, the Others sub-index logged the biggest loss of 2.36%.
