Nepse ends 15.33 points higher

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index posted a gain of 15.33 points, ending the session at 2,101.16 points on Monday.

The benchmark Nepse index had snapped a four-day losing run to post a loss of 10.5 points on Sunday.

Although the market was subdued for much of the session, it started posting gains after the hour’s mark and continued the momentum throughout the day to eventually close the day 0.73% higher.

Share prices of 199 companies advanced on the day while 45 declined and four remained unchanged. Share prices of five companies hit the positive circuit of 10% in the session. Himalayan Reinsurance Company Ltd was the most sought-after stock as shares worth Rs 230.23 million of the reinsurer were traded on the bourse on Monday. Next on the list were NRN Infrastructure and Development Ltd and NIC Asia Ltd with turnovers of Rs 163.02 million and Rs 137.74 million, respectively.

Among trading groups, all but one of the sub-indices posted gains. The biggest gain came from the Manufacturing & Processing sub-index, which was up by 2.22%. Hydropower and Non-life Insurance sub-indices were next with gains of 1.83% and 1.7%, respectively. The Other sub-index posted a nominal loss of 0.05%.

Shares worth Rs 3.58 billion were traded on Monday through 75,105 transactions. Total market capitalization – the total worth of listed shares – reached Rs 3.30 trillion.
