Nepse down 6.51 points; turnover slightly improves to Rs 3.08 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing streak for the second consecutive session, closing 6.51 points lower at 2,724.39 on Tuesday.

Although the index moved into the green during initial trading, it pared most of its gains and remained in the red territory throughout the session. It eventually closed trading 0.23% lower.

Unit prices of 145 scrips declined during the session, while 113 advanced and 12 remained unchanged. Total turnover improved slightly to Rs 3.08 billion with 7.81 million units traded through 45,519 transactions.

Total turnover had dropped to Rs 2.45 billion, the lowest since October 26 last year, when the Rs 2.36 billion worth of shares were traded on the bourse.

Among individual stocks, Corporate Development Bank Ltd logged the biggest gain of 14.26%. On the other hand, City Hotels Ltd recorded the biggest loss of 6.84%. However, City Hotels Ltd topped the turnover chart with shares worth Rs 235.33 million traded. Next were Sahas Urja Ltd and Ankhukhola Jalavidyut Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 91.63 million and Rs 86.83 million, respectively.

Among trading groups, nine sub-indices posted losses, while the remaining four ended the session in the green. The Development Bank sub-index posted the biggest gain of 0.77%, while the Trading sub-index suffered the biggest loss of 1.24% on Tuesday.
