Nagarik Unmukti lammaker Chaudhary arrested

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Member of the House of Representatives Arun Kumar Chaudhary from Banke.

The Nagarik Unmukti Party lawmaker was elected from the Kailali-2 constitution in the November 20 election.

District Court Kailali handed Chaudhary a jail term of six months and a fine of Rs 819,000 after convicting him on the act of setting fire on a tractor some 13 years ago.

The tractor, which was bringing boulders from Goranga River of Kailali, to Lamki was set on fire on August 19, 2009.

Police are preparing to bring Chaudhary to Kathmandu later today. He will be then sent to Kailali to serve his jail term.

Another lawmaker, Laxmi Mahato Koiri of CPN-UML, is also ‘on the run’. Koiri has been accused in the murder of Armed Police Force (APF) Sub Inspector Thaman BK. He is alleged to have instructed protesters to remove the injured BK from an ambulance and lynch him during a protest in several Tarai districts in 2015.
