KATHMANDU: The CPN (Maoist Center) has announced plans to hold a special convention in February-March of next year with the aim of revitalizing the party. This decision was taken during a meeting of the party’s office-bearers held on Monday.
The aim of the special convention is to make the party more vibrant, especially as it focuses on unifying fringe parties, a Maoist Center leader said.
The leadership of the Maoist Center has recognized that the party has not been successful in reaching the grassroots level. Similarly, it has concluded that leaders have been unable to effectively engage in the areas assigned to them by the party. To address this issue, the party has concluded that a special convention is necessary to bring new energy and strategies.
“As the party is focusing on the unification with Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplab’-led Nepal Communist Party and Dr. Baburam Bhattarai-led Nepal Socialist Party, the existing party structure is not deemed suitable to achieve this goal. Hence, efforts are being made to revitalize the party,” the leader added.
The Maoist Center is also preparing to hold a statute convention in December to amend the party’s statute. The office-bearers have decided to include it as one of the key agendas in the upcoming central committee meeting. Furthermore, the office-bearers have formulated a proposal for the division of work among party leaders. As per the proposal, central-level leaders will be deployed to the grassroots level.
The central committee meeting of the Maoist Center is beginning in Kathmandu on Wednesday. Evaluating last year’s general elections, assessing the government’s performance, and determining the future course of action for the party, are some of the agendas of the meeting.
