Maheshwar Bhakta Shrestha appointed Executive Chairman of NAC

KATHMANDU: Aviation expert Maheshwar Bhakta Shrestha has been appointed Executive Chairperson of the state-owned Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC).

A cabinet meeting held on Tuesday decided to appoint Shrestha, assigning him the responsibility of general manager as well, according to Government Spokesperson and Minister for Education and Sports Sashmit Pokharel.

An NAC cadre, Shrestha had retired from the national flag carrier as Corporate Director in the early 1990s. He has more than four decades of experience in Nepal’s airline industry, civil aviation and airline operations.

The cabinet also decided to approve Seeds Regulations (First Amendment), 2026.

According to Pokharel, the meeting also decided to provide motivation allowance to Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal personnel involved in disaster rescue and search operations.

The cabinet also decided to honor athletes and members of sports teams who win medals for Nepal in international competitions.

As per the decision, medal-winning athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, physiotherapists and team managers will receive cash awards and certificates of recognition.

The Cabinet has also assigned the Ministry of Home Affairs the responsibility of immediately implementing the recommendations of various commissions formed in the past to address problems related to usury.
