POKHARA: Noted writer and lyricist Prakat Pangeni ‘Shiva’ has passed away. He was 70.
Pangeni was admitted to Manipal Teaching Hospital on Monday morning. He was diagnosed with jaundice and pneumonia and was kept under ventilator support. He was declared dead by doctors at around 3:30 pm on Tuesday, according to his nephew Prajwal Pangeni.
He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
Pangeni was popular among fans of Nepali literature for his romantic ghazals.
The literature fraternity in Pokhara had started raising funds for his treatment since Tuesday morning. Pokhara Metropolitan City had set aside Rs 100,000 for his treatment, while Pokhareli Sanskritik Parivar had set up a fund by contributing Rs 25,000.
He will be cremated on Wednesday, according to family members.
