Lumbini thematic committees get leadership after 17 months

LUMBINI: Parliamentary committees of the Lumbini Province Assembly have finally got leadership – nearly 17 months since the provincial elections were held.

The leadership of House committees could be elected after major political parties in the province assembly reached an understanding to share the seven House committees among themselves. As per the understanding, CPN-UML has got the leadership of three committees, while Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN (Maoist Cener) have got two each.

UML’s Ramji Prasad Ghimire has been elected as the chairperson of the Physical Infrastructure Development Committee, while Raju Prasad Shrestha will lead the Finance, Industry and Tourism Committee and Giridhari Lal has been chosen as the chairperson of the Committee of Privileges.

Similarly, Maoist Center’s Dil Kumar Budha has been elected as the chairperson of the Provincial Affairs and Law Committee, while Yam Bahadur Nepali has been chosen as the chairperson of the Social Development Committee.

Likewise, NC’s Maya Pun has been elected as the chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee and Bishwaprem Pathak as the chairperson of the Agriculture, Forest and Environment Committee.

Although the province assembly only had six committees, the Committee of Privileges was formed as per the decision taken by the major political parties, according to Durlabh Kumar Pun, secretary of the Lumbini Province Assembly Secretariat.

The newly elected chairpersons were sworn in on Wednesday itself.
