KATHMANDU: One person died and three others were injured in a lightning strike in Surkhet district on Friday afternoon.
According to District Police Office, Surkhet, Dil Bahadur Shahi (27) of Bheriganga-8 died when lightning struck while he was busy transplanting rice in paddy field belonging to Bir Bahadur Thapa at around 3 pm. He passed away while undergoing treatment at Mehelkuna Hospital.
Similarly, Parbat BK (17), Huma Bahadur Thapa (19), Navin BK (18) and Sunita Giri (30), all from the same ward, sustained minor injuries. They are also receiving treatment at Mehelkuna Hospital.
At least 237 people have died and 908 have been injured due to lightning strikes in different parts of the country over the past four years, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
