KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker and industrialist, Binod Chaudhary, has raised objections to the arrest of his brother, Arun Chaudhary, who is under investigation for the illegal registration of government land as private property.
Speaking at the parliamentary party meeting of the NC on Friday, lawmaker Chaudhary said that the CG Group, a company associated with the family, acquired the land by fulfilling all legal requirements. “The government’s actions are retaliatory,” he added.
Arun Chaudhary has been accused of unlawfully registering 10 ropanis of land originally belonging to Bansbari Leather and Shoes Company Ltd as private property. His venture, The Chandbag School, is operating on the property.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police on Thursday arrested Arun Chaudhary, who is the chairman and managing director of CG Holdings, along with Ajit Narayan Thapa, the former chief of Bansbari Leather and Shoes Company Ltd, and Sanjay Thapa of The Chandbag School.
