KATHMANDU: The government has reclaimed 10 ropanis of land in Bansbari which was unlawfully registered in the name of Chaudhary Group through Champion Footwear.

Organizing a press briefing on Friday, the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation announced that the land plot has been officially transferred to the government’s name. Chhabi Nepali, chief of the Land Revenue Office, Dillibazaar, stated that the land has been brought under the government’s ownership as per Section 24 of the Land Revenue Act, 1978.

“The land plot, originally belonging to Bansbari Leather Shoes but later registered under Chandbag Residency Pvt Ltd, has now come under government ownership. It cannot be allocated to any individual or entity without government authorization,” Nepali said.

Champion Footwear registered the land plot in its name without a cabinet decision or approval from the Government of Nepal.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police is currently investigating Member of the House of Representatives and Chairman of Chaudhary Group, Binod Chaudhary, and his brother Arun in the Bansbari land grab case.
