ITAHARI: Police have launched an investigation against Koshi Rural Municipality Chairperson Aiyub Ansari for verbally abusing an on-duty police officer and obstructing the officer from performing his duty.
According to the District Police Office, Sunsari, Ansari is being investigated for hindering a public servant’s work, creating a public disturbance and engaging in indecent behavior in a public place.
Ansari has been accused of using offensive and insulting language toward a traffic police officer during a roadside inspection.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. In the footage, Ansari can be seen repeatedly using derogatory language toward the officer.
Superintendent of Police Suman Kumar Timilsina, the chief of District Police Office, Sunsari, told Himal Press that necessary documents have been collected and that the process of lodging a charge sheet is underway.
The confrontation occurred two days ago when a traffic police officer, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ramraj Yadav, stopped a tractor carrying an overloaded shipment of bamboo. During the inspection, the driver, reportedly a relative of Chairperson Ansari, called him to the scene. Upon arrival, Ansari allegedly lashed out at the officer, accusing him of corruption and using repeated profanities in front of bystanders.
Ansari also brought up a previous incident involving an overloaded motorcycle transporting milk that was fined by traffic police, blaming officers for causing the milk to spoil.
Meanwhile, Ansari has claimed that the footage was fabricated using artificial intelligence (AI). He also denied making offensive remarks as seen in the video.
Police say they have informed higher authorities and are preparing to move forward with legal action under charges of verbal abuse and misconduct against public officials.
