Khagaraj Adhikari sworn in as Chief Minister of Gandaki Province

POKHARA: Khagaraj Adhikari was Monday sworn in as the third Chief Minister of Gandaki Province.

Province Chief Prithvi Man Gurung administered the oath of office and secrecy to Adhikari in the presence of outgoing Chief Minister Krishna Chandra Singh Nepali Pokharel.

Adhikari was appointed chief minister as per Article A68 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015.

The parliamentary party leader of CPN-UML in Gandaki Province Assembly had made a claim to government formation earlier in the day, securing the support of 33 assembly members.

Parties need the support of 31 members to form government in the 60-member Gandaki Province Assembly. He has the support of CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and CPN (Unified Socialist). While UML has 22 members in the province assembly, Maoist Center has eight, RPP has two and Unified Socialist has one.

Adhikari was elected to the province assembly from Kaski-1(A) constituency.
