Japan ready to collaborate for Lumbini’s development: Ambassador Kikua

LUMBINI: The Japanese ambassador to Nepal, Kikuta Yutaka, has expressed Japan’s readiness to cooperate in the development of Lumbini – a sacred place for peace enthusiasts and Buddhist followers worldwide.

“Japanese people have embraced the path of non-violence since the Second World War. Therefore, Lumbini holds a special place for all Japanese people,” Ambassador Kikuta stated during a meeting with Lumbini Development Trust (LDT) Vice Chairman Lharkyal Lama in Lumbini on Monday.

The meeting covered discussions on bilateral relations, cooperation for the development of Lumbini, and the importance of enhancing Lumbini’s promotion in Japan.

On the occasion, Vice Chairman Lama said that Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, stands as the fountain of world peace and said the LDT’s was willing to collaborate with Japan for its development. He also briefed the implementation of the Lumbini Master Plan, crafted by Japanese architect Kenzo Tange in 1978, with the ambassador.

Earlier, LDT officials extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Kikuta upon his arrival in Lumbini. The ambassador visited significant sites such as the Mayadevi Temple and the Peace Flame in the Lumbini region.

Meanwhile, Dr. Stephan Russek, the deputy head of mission at the German Embassy in Kathmandu, also visited Lumbini and held discussions with LDT officials on Monday.
