International Conference on Economics kicks off

KATHMANDU: The 1st International Conference on Economics, 2024, kicked off in Lalitpur on Thursday.

Organized by the Department of Economics of Patan Multiple Campus, the conference will continue until Friday. The main theme of the conference is ‘New Emerging Dynamics in Economics’.

According to the organizers, the conference has brought together scholars and intellectuals from Nepal as well as India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, and Malaysia. “The conference aims to acquire and share knowledge and prepare for innovative thinking on development issues,” said Raghubir Bista, head of the Department of Economics at Patan Multiple Campus.

A total of 38 research papers will be presented in 11 technical sessions, according to the organizers. A total of 150 participants are attending the conference.

Dr. Bhargav Dhital, the Rector of Tribhuvan University, said that events like this are necessary to address challenges like economic stagnation, liquidity problems and a decline in domestic production. Likewise, the Dean of Tribhuvan University, Dr. Kusum Shakya, emphasized the need to understand economic dynamism to address challenges that Nepal could face as it graduates from the club of least developing countries into a middle-income nation.

Similarly, Dr. Laxman Singh Kunwar, chief of Patan Multiple Campus, said Nepal needs to address the complexities that it is facing in achieving economic growth by adopting a balanced geopolitical strategy. “There is a need to adopt a balanced approach while implementing bilateral agreements like MCC and BRI,” Kunwar added.
