Infrastructure development ministry secures highest budget

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has secured the largest share of the federal budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27.

Presenting the budget in the joint sitting of the federal parliament on Friday, Minister for Finance Dr Swarnim Wagle allocated Rs 302.83 billion for the ministry.

The Ministry of Education and Sports received the second-highest allocation at Rs 218.30 billion, followed by the Ministry of Women, Children, Gender Minorities and Social Security with Rs 122.61 billion.

Other major allocations include Rs 114.02 billion for the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Rs 108.32 billion for the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Rs 96.43 billion for the Ministry of Health and Food Safety.

The Ministry of Finance has been allocated Rs 84.73 billion, while the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Environment will receive Rs 73.12 billion. The Ministry of Defence has been earmarked Rs 64.96 billion.

Mid-range allocations include Rs 14.94 billion for the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and General Administration, Rs 10.53 billion for the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, and Rs 9.34 billion for the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been allocated Rs 8.74 billion, while the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers will receive Rs 7.48 billion. The Ministry of Information and Communication has been allotted Rs 5.93 billion, and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Rs 4 billion.

Among the smallest allocations, the Ministry of Youth, Labour and Employment has been earmarked Rs 3.62 billion, while the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs received Rs 0.58 billion.
