KATHMANDU: Home Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal and Inspector Generals of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force, among other police officials, left for the US on Monday to participate in the 4th United Nations Chief of Police Summit.
Inspector General Basanta Bahadur Kunwar and Deputy Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki of Nepal Police, and Inspector General Raju Aryal and Senior Superintendent Kiran Basnet of Armed Police Force are in the team.
Ministers, Chiefs of Police and senior representatives of regional and professional policing organizations are participating in the summit to be held at the UN Headquarters in New York on June 26-27. They will enage on strengthening international peace, security, and development for all through the unifying power and enabling role of national and United Nations policing.
The summit, UNCOPS 2024, is expected to hold discussion on operationalizing the United Nations Police Division’s role as a system-wide service provider and focal point for United Nations policing and other law enforcement matters; reinforce ongoing efforts to enhance the performance of United Nations Police by strengthening capacities, including the launch of the Voluntary Compact on Advancing Gender Parity within the United Nations Police; and integrate United Nations policing priorities in international peace and security processes, discussions and fora.
