KATHMANDU: Holi is being celebrated in Kathmandu and hilly areas of the country with great fanfare and rejoicing.

The festival is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring and the end of winter. Holi is also known as the ‘festival of colors’ because people play with colored powders and water during the festivities. Holi is a time when people come together to celebrate, forget their differences and spread joy and happiness.

The festival of Holi is celebrated on the full moon day in the Nepali month of Falgun, which usually falls in late February or early March.

Thousands of revelers have gathered at places like Basantapur, Patan, Bhaktapur, Bhrikuti Mandap etc to celebrate the festival. They are seen throwing colors and waters and each other. Not only the Nepali people, foreigners too are enjoying the festival.
