Govt will bring laws to return deposits stuck in cooperatives: Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane has said that the government will ensure the return of people’s deposits parked in troubled cooperatives by any means necessary.

Speaking at an electoral rally in Ilam on Tuesday, Lamichhane, who is also the President of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), said that the government will create an environment where people’s deposits will be returned whether by bringing policies or enacting or amending existing laws.

“The government is actively working on this matter. I am holding regular discussions with the Prime Minister. People’s savings will be returned even by bringing ordinance if needed,” Lamichhane said. “It has been said that there’s a lack of law to sell assets of the promoters of cooperatives. If necessary, laws will be enacted.”

Lamichhane also accused the other parties of trying to corner him to stop RSP. “Regardless of what happened in the pfast, people in Ilam will not succumb to pressure in the upcoming by-elections,” Lamichhane said. “This time, the people of Ilam will use their discretion and cast their votes without influence. This will usher in a wave of change nationwide. And no one can stop RSP’s victory in the 2027 elections.”
