KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said on Tuesday that the government will release Resham Chaudhary, the founder of the Nagarik Unmukti Party.

In response to questions from lawmakers, Dahal stated that he has previously publicly stated that Chaudhary is not guilty. “The government will follow through on past agreements related to Chaudhary and other issues of Madhesh. It earlier brought an ordinance to facilitate his release. We will now create a conducive environment for the release by bringing a Bill,” he added.

Dahal also stated that the government will proceed in an appropriate manner as the case is currently before the apex court.

Chaudhary and other leaders and cadres of Tharuhat Struggle Committee have been convicted by the Kanchanpur District Court for their involvement in the 2015 Tikapur incident, in which seven police personnel and a minor died.
