Govt mobilizes Rs 183.2 billion in revenue in first two months

KATHMANDU: The government collected Rs 183.2 billion in revenue during the first two months of fiscal year 2026/27.

According to data released by the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO), the total collection represents 11.59% of the Rs 1,580.31 billion that the government targets to raise in the current fiscal year.

Revenue collection grew 15.4% compared to the Rs 158.71 billion mobilized during the same period in the previous fiscal year.

Tax revenue accounted for Rs 172.42 billion of the total collection. This is 12.29% of the annual tax revenue target of Rs 1,403.31 billion. Non-tax revenue generated Rs 10.77 billion. This represents 8.96% of the annual non-tax revenue target of Rs 177 billion.

Foreign grants rose to Rs 5.53 billion, representing 8.96% of the annual target of Rs 61.74 billion. Grant receipts had totaled Rs 1.26 billion over the first two months of the previous fiscal year.

Government spending, however, outpaced income over the past two months. The FCGO data shows total government spending reached Rs 199.83 billion in mid-September. The total spending over the first two months of 2026/27 represents 11.58% of the annual budget of Rs 2,124.34 billion. Recurrent expenses accounted for the largest share of government expenditure at Rs 122.03 billion. The government spent 9.6% of its annual allocation of Rs 1,270.58 billion for recurrent expenditure in two months.

Financial management spending, which covers domestic and foreign debt servicing, totaled Rs 70.13 billion. This represents 16.59% of the total annual allocation of Rs 422.64 billion.

Meanwhile, capital expenditure reached Rs 7.67 billion — just 1.68% of its Rs 431.12 billion annual target. The spending, however, is up from Rs 5.22 billion recorded during the same period of 2025/26.
