Governor Poudel makes property details public

KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), Dr. Biswo Nath Poudel, has publicly declared his property as per the provisions of the Corruption Prevention Act, 2001.

As per the property details submitted by Governor Poudel, his family owns two houses and two land plots, jointly in the name of his spouse, Pratima Sharma.

One of the houses is located in Bhaisepati, Lalitpur, with a built-up area of 2,795 sq. ft., while the other is in Gaidakot, Nawalparasi, with a built-up area of 2,500 square feet. Dr Poudel has stated that both properties were constructed using family assets and income. The declared land assets include a plot in Bhaisepati, Lalitpur, procured for Rs. 15.5 million and another in Gaidakot, Nawalparasi, purchased for Rs. 6 million.

Governor Poudel and his family own 45 tolas (11.664 grams) of gold and Rs. 1.5 million worth of diamonds. He has stated in the property details that the gold is ancestral property, while the diamonds were purchased with personal earnings. He has Rs 2.06 million in bank deposits, while his wife has 4,446 US dollars in a bank account. His wife also owns a car costing Rs 4.4 million.

Dr Poudel also owns promoter shares worth Rs. 140 million in banks, hydropower companies and solar power companies, among others.
