KATHMANDU: The 12th Global Money Week has kicked off in Kathmandu with the slogan ‘protect your money, secure your future’.
Over 500 students from Grades 7 to 12 participated in the national launch event organized by the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) with the support of the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA), Securities Board of Nepal (Sebon), and the Department of Cooperatives in Kathmandu on Monday.
Inaugurating the event, NRB Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari said financial literacy should be made more effective to achieve financial inclusion. “We cannot achieve financial inclusion unless financial services are made accessible to people at all levels of society,” he added. “We need to instill a saving habit from a young age. I urge all the students present here to be aware of making their financial future secure.”
NIA Chairperson Surya Prasad Silwal, NRB Deputy Governor Bam Bahadur Mishra, Sebon Executive Director Dr Navraj Adhikari, Registrar of the Department of Cooperatives Pitambar Ghimire, and other high-level officials were present at the inauguration ceremony.
During the panel discussion with students, NRB Executive Director Dev Kumar Dhakal, Sebon Executive Director Dr Navaraj Adhikari, NIA Director Kamal Prasad Regmi, Deputy Registrar of the Department of Cooperatives Tol Raj Upadhyaya, and Nepal Bankers Association President Sunil KC made presentations about the activities and jurisdictions of their respective institutions. They also answered queries raised by students.
During the campaign, which will continue until March 24, financial literacy and awareness programs will be organized throughout the country, according to the NRB.
Global Money Week has been organized worldwide since 2012 at the call of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. NRB has been organizing the event in Nepal since 2013.
