Four dead, two injured as jeep gets electrocuted in Taplejung

KATHMANDU: Four people died and two were seriously injured when a jeep traveling to Pathibhara Temple in Taplejung was electrocuted by a live wire from an electric pole early Monday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred when the jeep, carrying devotees from Fungling, the district headquarters, to Pathibhara, got entangled in a dangling electric wire near Sewaro Chowk in Fungling Municipality-10, causing the vehicle to catch fire.

SSP Bhim Bahadur Dahal, the spokesperson for Koshi Province Police Office, confirmed that four people died and two were seriously injured in the incident.

The deceased have been identified as the vehicle’s driver, Durga Bhattarai from Fungling-10, Adhya Acharya (16) from Lalitpur, and Saritya Paudel (69) and Binod Paudel (70) from Jhapa.

Sabina Acharya (45) and her son Abhiyam Acharya have been brought to the district headquarters for treatment. The deceased, Adhya, is Sabina’s daughter, while Binod and Sarita are Sabina’s parents.

The group had arrived in Fungling, Taplejung, on Sunday for the Pathibhara pilgrimage.

This is so painful and shocking news that such innocent travellers /passengers heading for Pathibha pilgrimage met with a terrible accident by a live electric wire causing death and severe burns by electrocution. Who is responsible for leaving such live current wire freely dangling over the road must be brought to the book with stringent punishment so that such accidents are not repeated in the future.
