KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Nepal in Islamabad organized a special program on the occasion of International Sgarmatha (Everest) Day 2023.

The program saw the presence of Nepali and Pakistani climbers, mountaineering officials, journalists, and friends of Nepal, according to a statement issued by the Embassy of Nepal in Islamabad.

Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador of Nepal to Pakistan, Tapas Adhikari, said that the first ascent of Everest on May 29, 1953, added a new dimension to mountaineering, and since then, thousands of climbers have conquered Everest. During the program, Ambassador Adikari congratulated the Pakistani mountaineers, Nayla Kiani and Sajid Ali Saadpara, who climbed Everest in the spring season. He wished them success in their upcoming mountain climbing and adventurous sports and tourism expeditions.

Highlighting the contribution of the Sherpa community in mountain climbing, Adhikari said the climbing fraternity remembers Sherpas for their efficiency, reliability, and cooperative spirit. “Climbing any mountain becomes easier with their assistance,” he added.

Ambassador Adhikari also presented climbing certificates issued by the Tourism Department of Nepal to Everest climbers Kiani and Sadpara.

On the occasion, renowned climbers like Mingma G Sherpa, Dawa Sherpa, Sarwaz Khan, Nayla Kiani, and Sajid Ali Sadpara shared their experiences of mountain climbing in Nepal.
