KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has published election program for the National Assembly elections to be held on January 25.

Issuing a press statement on Sunday, the Election Commission announced that it would publish the list of voters on January 5. The final list of voters will be published on January 7 after addressing any complaints received. According to the program, candidates must register their nominations from 10 am to 1 pm on January 8. The Election Commission will then release the final list of candidates on January 12, and candidates will be assigned election symbols from 10 am to 1 pm on January 13.

Voting will take place from 9 am to 3 pm on January 25, and counting will commence on the same evening.

Twenty seats in the upper house, including one to be recommended by the President, are becoming vacant on March 4. As per the National Assembly Election Act, 2017, the election should be held 35 days before the seats become vacant.

The National Assembly consists of 59 members, with eight members elected from each of the seven provinces, and three appointed by the President. Members are elected by an electoral college comprising the mayor/chairperson and deputy mayor/vice chairperson of municipal bodies across the country.
