KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Poudel has appointed Dr Suresh Chandra Chalise as his Chief Personal Secretary.
According to a source at the Office of the President, Dr Chalise, who has previously served as Nepal’s ambassador to the United States and the United Kingdom, will also be responsible for overseeing foreign affairs matters.
Dr Chalise is well known for his experience as foreign affairs advisor to former Prime Ministers Girija Prasad Koirala and Sushil Koirala. He earned his PhD degree from Benaras Hindu University, India.
Meanwhile, President Poudel has also appointed his long-time secretary, Chiranjivi Poudel, as his personal secretary. According to the same source, the President has no plans to make additional appointments at this time.
There are rumors that several Nepali Congress leaders are interested in taking up posts such as press advisor, legal advisor, and political advisor to the President. Similarly, a few former generals of the Nepal Army are vying for the position of the President’s defense advisor.
Both Dr. Chalise and Poudel have already assumed their new positions.
