Displaced families to get Rs 25,000 as resettlement support from govt

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to provide resettlement support to families displaced during the removal of high-risk settlements along riverbanks in the Kathmandu Valley.

A cabinet meeting held on Tuesday decided to provide a one-time payment of Rs 25,000 to each affected family after verification of records, according to Government Spokesperson Sasmit Pokharel.

In addition, it approved a temporary housing support scheme for displaced families for up to three months to encourage them to arrange alternative accommodation on their own. “Under this arrangement, families with up to five members will receive Rs 15,000 per month, while larger families will receive an additional Rs 2,000 per person per month,” Pokharel said.

The government has also decided to keep elderly, disabled and helpless individuals, as well as those unable to manage their accommodation, in designated holding centers. Likewise, the cabinet decided to instruct local governments to ensure the continuity of education for children of displaced families, as well as the provision of basic healthcare services, in coordination with concerned agencies.

The cabinet also decided to accept 6.116 million Swiss francs from the Swiss government for a municipal revenue enhancement project, and 79.36 million yuan from the Government of China for the maintenance and improvement of the Araniko Highway.

Likewise, the meeting also decided to approve the Delegation Rules, 2026 and the Military Service (Sixth Amendment) Rules, 2026. Likewise, it decided to grant approval to present a bill to amend the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2002, in the federal parliament. In addition, the meeting decided to adjust and assign postings of secretaries in gazetted special-class positions as per the Government of Nepal (Allocation of Business) Rules, 2026.
