Deuba invites CK Raut to Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has invited Janamat Party Chairman CK Raut to Kathmandu for talks.

A member of Deuba’s secretariat telephoned Deuba on Tuesday morning. “The Prime Minister has invited Chairman Raut for the talks,” the member said. “The two will discuss the current political situation.”

Though Janamat Party has only one seat in the House of Representatives, it has already crossed the 3% threshold in proportionate representation (PR) vote count required to get ‘national party’ status.

Raut won the election for the House of Representatives from the Saptari-2 constituency, defeating Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Chairman Upendra Yadav.

Deuba has invited Raut to Kathmandu at a time when parties have intensified discussions over government formation.

Meanwhile, Raut will reach Kathmandu on Tuesday itself. Rajesh Mandal, a member of Janamat Party’s secretariat committee, said Raut will fly to Kathmandu on Tuesday evening. “The chairman has some personal work in Kathmandu. Political meetings are also likely to happen during the visit,” he added.
