KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has assumed the office of Prime Minister at Singha Durbar.

Upon assuming the position, Dahal stated that he will work for the benefit of the country and its people, while remaining within the confines of the constitution.

This is Dahal’s third prime ministerial stint. He previously held the position in 2008 and 2016.

On Monday afternoon, President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to Dahal. After being sworn in, Dahal visited Pushpa Lal Park in Kirtipur to pay tribute to the martyrs.

Dahal has the support of seven political parties – CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Janata Samajbadi Party, Janamat Party, and Nagarik Unmukti Party – as well as several independent lawmakers.
