MUSTANG: A seven-member team of Chinese officials, including Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming, arrived in Lomanthang of Upper Mustang on Saturday via the Korala border.
Mustang Chief District Officer Ajita Sharma said the Chinese ambassador entered Mustang through the Korala border. “We have not received detailed information about the purpose of the visit,” she said.
The ambassador is in Lomanthang for a three-day visit. The team is scheduled to leave for China via the Korala border on Sunday.
According to Lomanthang Rural Municipality Chairperson Tashi Narbu Gurung, the Chinese ambassador visited Mustang to assess the situation at the Korala border point.
The visit comes at a time when there have been calls to reopen the Korala border point after Kerung, which had served as an alternative to the Tatopani border point that has remained closed for a long time, was devastated by the Bhotekoshi floods.
With the Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani border points closed, the Mustang Customs Office has been collecting around Rs 300 million in revenue daily.
