Biratnagar tense as protesters clash with police

ITAHARI: Over a dozen people, including police personnel, have been injured when pro-identity groups clashed with police in Biratnagar on Sunday.

According to police, the situation became tense as pro-identity protesters attacked police with batons, spears, and even catapults.

The injured police personnel are receiving treatment at Koshi Provincial Hospital and Golden Hospital, among others.

The indigenous Kirant people are organizing protests in different parts of Koshi Province to protest the decision to name the province ‘Koshi’. They have been demanding that the province be renamed based on identity.
