KATHMANDU: Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar passed away on Thursday morning. He was 75.
According to Indian news agency PTI, Patekar died at his Goa residence during the early hours of Thursday after suffering a heart attack.
“The 75-year-old actor was brought to a private hospital after he was found unconscious at his apartment at Dona Paula, near Panaji,” Dr Shekhar Salkar, a senior doctor attached to the hospital, told PTI.
Born on January 1, 1951, Patekar is widely regarded as one of the most powerful performers in Hindi and Marathi cinema. A graduate from Sir JJ Institute of Applied Arts, he honed his performance craft in Marathi theater before making his Bollywood debut with Gaman in 1978.
He is known for iconic films like Krantiveer, Angaar, Ab Tak Chappan, Welcome and Raajneeti.
Patekar won three national awards—Best Supporting Actor for Parinda, Best Actor for Krantiveer and Best Supporting Actor for Agni Sakshi—during his illustrious career.
