KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped a three-day winning streak on Wednesday, falling 21.19 points to close at 2,612.42. The index had gained 102.07 points over those three sessions.
The Sensitive index, which measures the performance of blue-chip companies, also fell 3.77 points.
The benchmark index remained under pressure throughout most of the trading session after opening higher. It hit an intraday high of around 2,639.41 points before declining and hitting an intraday low of 2,605.13 points before a brief recovery at the close.
Market breadth was negative, with 225 stocks declining, while 42 gained and 12 remained unchanged. Total turnover fell to Rs 5.39 billion with 15.1 million units traded through 55,831 transactions.
Among individual stocks, Narayani Development Bank posted the largest gain of 6.37%. Himal Dolakha Hydropower Company and Mount Everest Power Development Ltd followed with gains of 5.31% and 4.38%. On the other hand, NMB Hybrid Fund L-II posted the biggest loss of 7.73%. Ridge Line Energy Limited and Nepal Warehousing Company Ltd were next with losses of 5.21% and 4.96%.
Himal Dolakha Hydropower Company topped the turnover chart with total transactions of Rs 379.56 million. Reliance Spinning Mills and Shivam Cement followed with turnovers of Rs 251.01 million and Rs 165.7 million, respectively.
The sub-indices of all 13 trading groups ended the session in the red. The Hydropower sub-index posted the biggest loss of 1.04%. Next were the Life Insurance and Non-life Insurance sub-indices with losses of 1.01% and 0.91%, respectively.
