KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairperson Rajendra Lingden has said that a national consensus, including the former king, must be forged by abandoning the politics of exclusion to give the country a way out of the current crisis.
Addressing the convention of the party’s Kathmandu District Committee on Sunday, Lingden said the country had long entered a dark tunnel of political instability and uncertainty. “Past political changes and rebellions failed to inspire hope among the people. The country can no longer bear further conflict and the politics of exclusion,” he said.
Lingden claimed that the country would not find a way out unless a national consensus was reached among all political parties and the former king. “The party’s general convention, scheduled for December, would not merely be a process of electing leaders but an important opportunity to chart the party’s future course and correct its past mistakes, he added.
Lingden urged party leaders and cadres to strengthen and unite the party internally. He made it clear that the tendency of the party’s lawmakers and elected representatives to come under the influence of other parties or violate party discipline in the name of winning elections would not be acceptable.
The RPP president added that he had never done anything that would make the party or its cadres bow their heads in shame. He also pledged to remain steadfast in his stance against corruption.
